These Asters must not be confused with the Railway Weeds to which they are closely related. There are many hybrid varieties that range from dwarf to 1.3m tall. Although we normally assume they are pale blue in colour, there are many more to choose from.
Cut to ground level in the autumn, lift and divide old clumps to remove any dead centres, and replant. cover with a top dressing of manure or garden compost. The taller varieties will require stakes or other support prior to flowering time.
No toxic, culinary or medicinal properties known.
