These are small bulbous plants originally from the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean. Ideal for rockeries and small borders, tubs and planters where they can be seen easily. Although Chionodoxa looks extremely delicate they are quite hardy. The flower stalk has many starry flowers, usually blue or blue and white, but can be obtained in pure white or pink. Use them for naturalizing in the rockery or under deciduous bushes, for a splash of colour in early spring.
Plant the bulbs in the autumn as soon as possible after purchase, and top dress annually with compost or manure. Easy!
