Amelanchier is a large bush or small tree grown for the flower display in spring. This brief display lasts only for 2 - 3 weeks but the tree is usually completely covered with the white flowers. Black berries appear in summer and these are appreciated by the songbirds. Although it will grow as a standard tree, it does produce suckers or low branches, making this a better subject for a thick bush.
No special care is required for this plant. The leaves can get eaten by various caterpillars, and in my garden, it is the primary focus for the leaf cutter bees. Neither do much harm.
Berries are edible raw or cooked but when ripe, you have to get to the tree before the birds.
