Family description Acnistus.

Acnistus is not very common and you may have difficulties obtaining this plant locally. It is a deciduous shrub that grows to about 2 metres high and slightly less wide. During early summer, masses of trumpet shaped flowers are produced in various shades about 50mm in length. It is supposed to be available in several colours but so far, I've only come across white and blue. Acnistus is a little susceptible to winter frosts, particularly when young, but seems to toughen up with age.

General care.

Provide some protection from frost during the winter months, particularly during its first winter, and mulch the root area with plenty of manure or compost. In spring, as new foliage appears, cut out any dead branches, and reduce the spread if the plant has grown too large for the position.
