Eschscholzia is a short-lived perennial plant with blue-green finely cut ferny leaves that produces a mass of bright poppy flowers. this plant needs a sunny position to do well, but is not fussy about the soil. It grows better and bigger in a good loamy soil but would still grow on a pile of stones. Do not let plants sit in waterlogged soil. This plant produces quite a long tap root and is best grown from seed. Small seedlings will transplant without problems but larger plants may wilt badly and have difficulty re-establishing themselves.
Little care is required. If you have the time, the seed heads should be removed as soon as possible after flowering, leaving just one or two to ensure succession in later years.
No toxic, culinary or medicinal properties known.
