Campanula are a group of mostly perennial border plants, some of which produce quite large flowers. There is one variety that is a carpeting spreader best kept in the rockery, but most grow from a crown of root and do not become invasive. some varieties can grow quite tall, (1 metre ) but most attain more modest heights of 30cm - 60cm. The flowers are bell shaped and come in various shades of blue, pink and white.
Once the foliage deteriorates in autumn, cut the plant down to just above the fresh new shoots appearing at soil level. Feed with a slow acting fertilizer and top dress with compost or manure. When the flowering shoots develop in the spring, provide suitable support for the taller varieties.
Flowers and leaves may be eaten.
