Alchemilla is a small perennial plant grown as much for the foliage as the insignificant flowers. From early spring until late autumn, this plant produces roundish, felty leaves that are highly sought after for indoor flower arranging. Sprigs of small flowers appear during late summer giving the appearance of smoke. Plants may be grown singly in small containers or allowed to spread as ground cover in otherwise difficult areas of the garden.
Simply cut the foliage back to a neat crown in late autumn and wait for it to re-grow in the spring.
Roots can be cooked and eaten. Leaves may be eaten cooked or raw.
